Kwong Wah Theatre

The Kwong Wah Theatre was the first theatre to be built in Yuen Long in the New Territories after the end of WWII. Kwong Wah is the Cantonese pronunciation of its Chinese name, literaaly meaning " glorifying China."

It was a neighbourhood theatre and opened to business on 13th February, 1950 with a Cantonese film. Its 1,167-seat auditorium with balcony and a stage was on the ground floor of the theatre building.
As a practice of neighbourhood cinemas in the New Territories, the theatre advertised its programmes in its early years by posters. On 7th April, 1950, a bomb exploded in the male toilet.

The theatre closed on 1st January, 1991 with a Cantonese film. A commercial building was built on the site of the theatre.
