Savoy Theatre

The Columbia Theatre was opened prior to 1916. Renamed Temple Theatre in 1925, in 1930 became the Columbia Theatre. By 1942 it had been renamed Savoy Theatre. Seating for the theatre was listed at 700. Initially it was operated by Co-Op Theatres of Michigan and later by Goodrich Theatres.

The Savoy Theatre was Goodrich’s first Theatre.

The Savoy Theatre closed in 1979 and was later demolished.

From 1950 a view of the Savoy Theatre as it had looked since 1930 and from the same year a post restoration view of the Savoy in Grand Rapids.

A house called the Columbia Theatre is listed at 78-82 Market Avenue in the 1916 Grand Rapids City Directory.

It was renamed the Savoy Theatre by 1942.
