Mustang Drive-In

The Mustang Drive-In was located on the north side of Soledad Canyon Road between Canyon Country and Saugus (now Santa Clarita) in the Santa Clarita Valley. It was opened May 25, 1966 with Marty Allen in “Last of the Secret Agents” & Clint Walker in “Night of the Grizzly”. At the time there wasn’t much along this stretch of road, including traffic signals, between Canyon and Saugus. It was closed in 1984. Now the area is very developed, and no trace of the drive-in remains.

Here is a 1977 aerial photo. I had to use Santa Clarita instead of Saugus, though.

The Signal of Santa Clarita reminisced today, noting that Yellow Submarine opened at the Mustang on April 14, 1969. The author pointedly wrote that the drive-in was in the neighborhood known as Honby.

Which sent me to Google Maps, which tells me that Saugus is also a neighborhood, one of four communities that merged in 1987 to create the city of Santa Clarita. At any rate, the Mustang’s address is now clearly within Santa Clarita, so the CT address should be adjusted accordingly and Saugus should be removed from the CA city list.
