Judy Drive-In

The Judy Drive-In opened on June 9, 1956 with Ray Milland in “The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing” & Peter Graves in “Fort Yuma”. It was privately owned and operated. A tornado took down the screen and the roof of the concession area in 1967. Later rebuilt, the drive-in continued operations until its closure on October 8, 1977 with Sean Connery in “A Bridge Too Far” & Kris Kristofferson in “Vigilante Force”.

After the drive-in closed it was later demolished, and the site is now a car dealership.

There is also a still open Judy Drive In in Mt Sterling KY. I wonder if they had the same owner.

Ralph Taylor built the ozoner naming it after his daughter, Judy Taylor. It launched June 9, 1956 with “The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing” and “Fort Yuma” supported by the Casper, the Friendly Ghost cartoon, “Red, White and Boo!” Fred and Marjorie May managed the venue and took over its ownership. (Tom P. and Lula Littleton Sutton operated the Mt. Sterling Judy Drive-In.)

Closed on October 8, 1977 with “A Bridge Too Far” and “Vigilante Force”. It never reopened the following season.
