1940 and 1946 grand opening ads posted.
Actually, the State Theater opened its doors on August 7, 1940 with Jackie Cooper in “Streets Of New York” along with an unnamed Three Stooges and an unnamed cartoon. The State Theatre was relocated in 1946, reopening on June 2 of that same year.
According to the Times-Democract it opened in December 1941.
Open ~1941-~1969? Can anyone verify the exact dates?
Owned 1950-1969 Video Independent Theatres, Inc., of Oklahoma City, K.C. Blackledge, President, they had over 120 theaters in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Need an address or crossroads, more info and photos.
The State Theatre was closed for a time in the early 1950s. As reported in Boxoffice of March 20, 1954, the State was reopened as a first run house by Video Independent Theatres following the destruction by fire of the circuit’s Delta Theatre on March 14.
I haven’t found the State mentioned in any later Boxoffice items, so I don’t know how long its reprieve lasted. I’ve found no evidence that the Delta was ever rebuilt, either.
