Located in the south Sydney suburb of Beverly Hills. The St. James Theatre was opened 22nd November 1940, with a seating capacity for 600, all on a single floor, with a raised stepped section at the rear. The brick facade was quite plain.
In the mid-1970’s, it became part of the Hoyts Theatres chain. It went into independent ownership, and was twinned, re-opening as the Beverly Hills Twin Cinema on 25th August 1983.
It was later operated by an independent operator, and has been sub-divided into 6-screens, in an expansion of the original building. In 2016 it was renamed GU Film House. It was closed by Event Cinemas on January 27, 2025.

IN 2016 the Beverly Hills Cinemas were renamed GU FILM HOUSE. A new brand of cinema experience favoring smaller complexes. The other two GU FILM HOUSE cinemas are in South Australia. One in Adelaide City and the other at Glenelg.
