The Survivor.

Located in the north-western Adelaide suburb of Kilkenny. The New Kilkenny Theatre was opened on 5th June 1927 with “Kings of the Turf” and “What Fools Men”. Seating was provided for 1,114 in orchestra and balcony levels. The Star Theatre was taken over by the Clifford Theatres/Star Theatres circuit in 1947, who merged into the Greater Union Cinemas chain and it was re-named Odeon Star Theatre. The theatre was upgraded at this time. It was closed in late-1959

In 2011, the building is in use as a supermarket.

This is another Theatre that was Grand in its time…..i noted it closed in 59'…….so i must have been very young back then when my Mum & Dad as a Family travelled by car to see ‘The King And I’ I have vague memories of it…..but the Theatre was Grand!………….
