Built during the H-Bomb Savannah River Plant era, the Sky-Line Drive-In was one of many drive-ins that popped up in Aiken and Barnwell Counties in South Carolina.
The Sky-Line Drive-In was located on Highway 19 and held 294 cars. It was open only from 1953 to 1955 and operated by J.T. Greene Jr & Mrs. J.T. Greene Jr. of Branchville. Very much an over screened area. Located in New Ellenton, a town in fact, created when the Bomb plant took the entire town of Ellenton, S.C. for its hugh site.

It took the reporter from the Aiken Standard to find this Drive-in,I had no idea New Ellington ever had a Drive-in.Would love to find some old ads.
Whiskey Rd & White Pond Rd South Carolina 29803
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is still clearly visible in aerial photos from 1971.
A 1971 aerial view shows the theater but I cannot confirm any evidence if the screen was standing or not. It was already gone by 1981, leaving the projection booth for at least another several years.
A closer address is 5286 Whiskey Rd, Aiken, SC.
Google Maps has updated their addresses and this puts it just behind where the projection booth use to be.
The 1971 aerial shows the screen is gone. As the same photo shows a shadow cast from the still standing projector booth, but none from the line where the screen used to be standing.
Despite the screen being gone, the properly looked remarkably well kept in 1971. Today, it is totally overgrown with trees and no trace of the drive-in remains.
