Star Theatre

Located in the Padstow district of Sydney. Built by Tom Virgona and opened on 4th July 1956 as a twin to his Star Theatre in Panania, Sydney. The opening films were “Maralyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch” & Dirk Bogarde in “Doctor at Sea”. Seating was provided on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear rather than the usual overhanging balcony. The Star Theatre was closed in 1985 with Mel Gibson in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”.

It was in use as a Civic Video store for many years, but that closed in 2017. In 2018 it became a gymnasium catering for children & teenagers.

The video library(Civic Video) has closed down(2016 0r 2019?). The building is now a personal training gym(One PTS Gym), and a pizza restaurant(Angelo’s Traditional Pizza and Ribs).

The last movie screening in 1985 is reputed to be “Max Max 3 beyond Thunderdome”.
