I saw a few movies here, as a kid. In order to get sound, at the time, you would bring a radio and tune into a certain station. You would pick up the film sound on the radio.

Use address 10310 US-1 Glen Allen, VA 23059. Brings you right to the spot. On the maps, you can still make out some of the ramps and where the projection building once stood. Heavily overgrown.

The Rose Bowl Drive-In opened its gates on July 7, 1953 with James Stewart in “Bend Of The River” (unknown if extras added). It appears that the theater closed in the early-1980s.

A closer address is 10318 Washington HWY, Glen Allen, VA.

The drive-n appears intact in 1968, but by 1984 the screen was gone.

Remnants of the drive-in, mostly the ramps, outline, and foundation of the projector booth/concession stand remained until 2016. By 2018, the entire property had been razed.

Today, the land is open with no trace of the drive-in remaining. Even the entrance road is gone.

Judging by address location, this is clearly located right at the borderline between Glen Allen and Ashland.

Also, the capacity of the Rose Bowl Drive-In looks to be a little more larger than 300. I’ll say between 400 to 500 estimate.
