An ugly box of a building, the Malco Theatres, Inc., chain kept it open far beyond any cinema of its low quality should have operated. It opened on April 22, 1977 when Malco closed down the U-Ark Theater on Dickson Street. Such a sad event! [The U-Ark was the best older cinema in northwest Arkansas and remains a prime candidate for restoration.]

Such classics as “Jaws,” “Star Wars” and “Apocalypse Now” opened at the Razorback Twin. It became a four-screen theatre, named Malco Razorback Quartet. It eventually became a 6-screen theatre.

It closed in 2009 when Malco opened the new Razorback multiplex several miles to the north.

Today the building was renovated and reopened as a World Gym franchise operation. That closed in 2019 and later that year it became a church.

I’m going to have to kindly disagree with you on the matter of the Razorback’s beauty and it’s quality, David. Though I’ll certainly not deny that the building was a big old box shape.

The theater ended it’s days as the Malco Razorback 6, a six screened theater by the way.

Once known as the “Malco Razorback Quartet” when the theater became a four-screen theater in December 1984. Two more screens were added in 1989 bringing a total to six and was renamed “Malco Razorback 6”.

The gym closed in 2019, and was later converted to a church that same year.
