The Showcase Cinema I & II opened on May 8, 1970 with Paul Newman in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” & Maggie Smith in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” in the downstairs screen and Peter O'Toole in “Goodbye Mr Chips” in the Penthouse theatre upstairs. The Transcontinental Theater’s Showcase Cinema I & II was a luxurious two-screen complex constructed of glass & marble, with a winding staircase connecting the two levels of the theatre. The downstairs theatre was equipped with a 50 by 22 foot screen.

The theatre closed in 1989, and the building is currently leased to a tool retailer.
