Boxoffice, Oct. 29, 1949: “OREGON CITY, ORE. - Construction of a 900-car drive-in to be built at a cost of $200,000 by Amphitheatres, Inc., has been started on a 12½-acre site at Naef road and McLaughlin boulevard here. In-car heaters will be among facilities, and the grounds will be landscaped. The new drive-in is expected to be ready for opening next February or March, according to Phil Polsky, president of the firm.”
Actual opening date is May 10, 1950 with “Francis” and “Far Frontier” along with a few unnamed shorts. It was closed on September 3, 1984 with Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “Sheena”. Luxury Theatres was its last operator.
There is an ad in the photo that is dated in 1980, so it have at least to that year?
Boxoffice, Dec. 8, 1951: “In a violent windstorm … recently, major damage was done at the Super 99 Drive-In on McLoughlin boulevard, when the huge outdoor screen was toppled. It would have to be completely rebuilt, the management said, and as a result, the theatre was closed for the remainder of the season.”
Thanks for putting this up, and thanks Hispeed54 for the complete address! I never went here but certainly knew it existed, we drove by it a few times. I remember it being closed right around 1979, just as DRESSED TO KILL was coming out in theaters.
Address is: 16818 SW McLoughlin Boulevard Milwaukie, OR 97267
