Astor Theatre

Located at the intersection of Broadway and 77th Street. The Broadway Theatre was opened prior to 1949. It is said when the original organ was damaged, it was replaced by the Robert Morton theatre organ that had been installed in the Embassy Theatre, North Bergen before it was demolished. It was later renamed Astor Theatre.

The former Astor Theatre is now the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel.

My dad worked at the Astor in the 1940s. That was where he met my mom, who was a cashier at the candy counter.
