Arcade Theatre

The first Arcade Theatre was built before 1909 and was located about a block away from this address on the northeast corner of East Main Street and Sixth Street. Around 1924 that Arcade Theatre closed and this Arcade Theatre opened at the address above. The Arcade Theatre operated into the late-1950’s or early-1960’s.

After the theatre closed, the building was converted to retail use and was occupied by a Western Auto store. In the 1960’s, the top floor of the building was damaged by fire. In order to save the building from being completely demolished, the second story of the building was removed to make the building safe. The former theatre is currently used as a video rental store.

There is another Arcade Theatre currently located across the street from this building at 513 East Main Street which is a live performance theatre. As far as I know, that Arcade Theatre was never a movie theatre and it has no relationship to this Arcade Theatre other than sharing the same name.
