In Billericay, Essex, the Ritz Cinema opened in April 1938, on Easter Monday, having been built by local man Walter French. There was a single storey auditorium with a 24ft wide proscenium and it was equipped with a RCA sound system. By 1944 it was operated by Mayfair Circuit (Control) Ltd. By 1953 it was owned by Bentley Circuit (Management) Co Ltd, and by 1955 by Albert Phelps (owner of the Radion, Laindon) and his company APP Theatres Ltd.
The Ritz Cinema closed in 1971. After a long period on bingo it became the Ritz Snooker Club in 1992. That closed in 1999/2000, and the building was demolished in 2000.
