T he Dexter Theatre opened on April 7, 1940 in the existing Bretlinger Building . On September 3, 1943, it reopened as the Gem Theater with “Boots and Saddles.” Advertisements cease on November 10, 1954 with a four-wall screening of “Martin Luther.”
The location of the Gem Theater was 17 North Walnut Street, Dexter, Missouri.
The Gem Theater open in the late 1940’s when the main theater was being remolded (Weeks Theater). The theater closed about 1953 and was turned into a Western Auto store. The build still standing. The theater ran second run movies, double features on Friday night and westerns on Saturday.
