Located in Portsmouth/Southsea, Hampshire. The Victoria Hall was built in 1885 and had a capacity (including standing) for 2,400. It showed Paul’s Theatrograph (an English version of the Lumiere brother’s cinematograph equipment) in August 1896. It opened as a cinema in 1908, operated by Arthur and Horace Andrews operating as Andrews Pictures Ltd.. Seating was provided in stalls and circle levels. It had a 28 feet wide proscenium. In August 1928 it was taken over by Union Cinemas and in 1929 was equipped with a Western Electric sound system. In October 1937, they were taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain.
In 1939 it was re-named Victoria Cinema. ABC closed the Victoria Cinema on 7th March 1960. It was demolished and an office block was built on the site.
