Located in Jennings Street, off Rodbourne Road, in the district of Robourne, to the north of Swindon, Wilshire. The Palladium Cinema was opened in 1928 with Ramon Novarro in “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ”. It was built and operated by Even Swindon Cinema Ltd. and had 750 seats at its opening. It was later equipped with a RCA sound system.
The Palladium Cinema was closed on 15th November 1958. In the early-1960’s it was converted into a bingo club. When that closed it became a printers workshop. On 1st March 2017 it became a community arts centre named The Balcony. It was closed and the building was offered for sale in September 2023. It was sold for £268,000 in October 2023 and the building was boarded up. The new owners have not revealed who they are or what use awaits the building.

When bingo ceased, it became a printers workshop. A deal was struck by a local teacher with the landlord to convert the building into a community arts centre. This opened on 1st March 2017, and is called The Balcony.
The cinemas was opened on 17th November, 1928 with the silent film Ben Hur, accompanied by the sounds of an orchestra. Seating 448 in the stalls, and 162 in the small balcony, a total of 610 seats. There were no stage facilities, the screen being mounted on the rear auditorium wall, the orchestra seated below, with cloakroom and storage in the ‘wings’ either side of the screen in an angled proscenium opening. Plans for the Palladium are dated 8th May, 1928. Closure came two days short of the Palladium’s thirtieth birthday on 15th November, 1958.
