Ritz Theatre

Opened as the Main Street Theatre, the name is still on the stonework of the building today. It became the Ritz Theatre by 1940 and seated 400 according to the Film Daily Yearbook of 1940. Theatre calendars from 1944 in my possession indicate it was running then as well. For Sherman’s listing in the Film Daily Yearbook of 1950 & 1951, only the Carlan Theatre on Main Street is listed with a seating capacity of 400 so it sounds like this was the Ritz Theatre with a simple name change.

If anyone can verify that these were two separate theatres, a separate listing should be created for it. If not, the Carlan should be added as a previous name. I just don’t like putting any info in CT I have not positively verified. (CinemaTour website lists them separately)
