Tower Fine Arts Theatre

The People’s Theatre was opened on March 17, 1914 with Ethel Clayton in “The Lion and the Mouse”. By 1926 it was operated by the Finkelstein & Ruben chain. They were taken over in 1929 by Publix. They later merged with Paramount Pictures Inc. It was renamed Tower Theatre in 1950 and closed in the mid-1950’s. It reopened in 1957 and on June 13, 1961 it became the Tower Fine Arts Theatre screening adult themed movies, starting with Bill Teas in “The Immoral Mr. Teas” (aka “Mr. Tease and His Playthings) Directed by Russ Meyer & "Dirk Bogarde in "Doctor in the House”. It was closed around 1967.

It became La Belle nightclub, which was still operating in 2012. It was demolished by 2017 for a parking lot.

The name was changed to “Tower” in 1950, closed in the mid-50s for a time, reopened 1957. Later known as “Tower Fine Arts” in mid-60s with a mixture of art and porn. Closing was around 1967. More details when I locate specific material.
