According to Brownfield News, Bill Mathis opened the Queen Theatre as an airdome on July 4, 1916 screening “The Siege and Fall of the Alamo. A roof was later added.

The Queen Theatre was where Earl Jones, veteran Brownfield theater man, got his start as a projectionist in 1916. In 1922 Mr. Jones and W.A. Bynum opened the Legion Theatre at 206 S. 5th Street, by which time the Queen Theatre was gone.

The Queen Theatre ascended on July 4, 1916 with 175 thrones for willing subjects. Murten Judd ran the castle on opening day and the first advertised feature came ten days later with “The Siege and Fall of the Alamo”
