Pontio Arts & Innovation Centre incorporates a 200-seat cinema, being partly situated on the former site of Theatre Gwynedd. It was opened by March 2016 with film being part of the programming.
The development is partly funded by Bangor University, the Welsh Assembly Government, Arts Council and Europe and fully opened after construction delays in 2016.

The centre had a phased opening but was screening films by March 2016 when The 5th Wave, Creed and The Assassin were on the bill. A programme of horror films was screened the following month. It temporarily closed in 2020, presumably due to Covid-19, reopening on 12 July 2021.
