Opened on August 16, 1961 with Michael Gough in “Konga” & Derek Bond in “The Hand”. The Southland 68 Auto Theatre was built just off of Highway 68 for $250,000 by J.M. Mahaffey and A.J. Hughes. Much as was the case for land speculation, the drive-in served its usefulness as the land use and population shifts occurred. The o-zoner has been replaced by a Kroger grocery store.
