This closed on September 27, 1969 with Peter Lawford in “Hook, Line, and Sinker”, James Stewart in “Shenandoah”, and a bonus on its final day “In Enemy Country”.
The Sundown held its grand opening on May 19, 1950 with a capacity crowd, based on stories in the Colusa Sun-Herald. Its first program was the Randolph Scott film “Coroner Creek” followed by Disney’s “Dumbo”.
Motion Picture Herald, Jan. 12, 1952: “The Ned C. Steele father-and-son partnership will be dissolved with the 314-seat Colusa at Williams being taken over by Ned, Sr., and the Sun-Down drive-in, there, going to Jr.”
