The Empress Theatre was opened on September 26, 1912, taking the place for entertainment in the town from the Stuard Opera House. It was located at the back of the Stuard Hotel operated until 1920 when the Empress Theatre operation was moved to the new Dawson Building at 104 N. Main Street (this second Empress Theatre (later renamed Rex Theatre), together with the 3rd Empress theatres each have their own page on Cinema Treasures).
