Liberty Theatre

The Bijou Dream Theatre opened as an early silent house in 1907 in downtown Canandaigua, NY. Like a number of theatres during World War I, the theatre renamed to the more patriotic Liberty Theatre nameplate. In the 1927 edition of Film Daily Yearbook it is listed with 1,000 seats. The theatre ran about 20 years and was surpassed in quality by the Fox Playhouse. The theatre hosted sporadic events before becoming a J.C. Penney’s retail store in 1940.

Taken over by Fox Circuit in March 1929, and once operated by Schine Circuit.
