Built by a group of local businessmen headed by G. E. Waller who thought their small community needed a cinema, they raised $150,000 and the Beacon Theatre opened on February 16, 1968 with Steve McQueen in “The Sand Pebbles”. It featured 631 seats, took five months to build, had a red color scheme, Norelco 70/35mm projectors, and seats by Griggs. After closing, the building has been used for offices.
