I don’t believe it was ever moved. This theater building has always been right beside the former Toys R Us (Big Lots as of 2024). It was simply remodeled. As of 2024, it’s called Cinemark Century 14.
Closed on October 28, 2002.
The Northridge 8 was entirely demolished before its replacement was built.
Went here once in late 1978 or early 1979 to see “Superman.” (At the time my military parents were stationed at nearby Fort Ord and Salinas had the nearest shopping mall that my mother liked.) I don’t recall much about the theater other than it was at the mall but not in the mall and four screens in one complex (at the time) seemed crazy.
When I was an auditor for Century Theatres, I didn’t realize it at the time, but parts of the original lobby still existed and was used as a stock room. I always wondered why a stock room had such high ceilings but really didn’t think about it. Had I known I would’ve taken more pictures, although w/o digital cameras I don’t know how well they would’ve come out.
