Pioneer Drive-In

One of several Peoria drive-in theaters around Peoria, the Pioneer Drive-In opened on September 6, 1964 with Jack Lemmon in “The Days of Wine and Roses” & Joanne Woodward in “The Stripper”. Like most (if not all) of Peoria’s outdoor theaters, it was part of the Kerasotes chain. The theater was showing mostly adult films by the time it closed on September 5, 1983 with “Last House on the Left” & “Don’t Look in the Basement”. It was demolished in 1998.

A closer address is 8278 N Allen Rd, Peoria, IL.

The very roads have changed in this area since the drive-in was closed. This puts it right about where the entrance road was present.

Today, several businesses sit on the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining.

The Pioneer closed on September 5, 1983 at the end of its lease with “Last House on the Left” and “Don’t Look in the Basement.” It was still standing in the early 1990s and deemed to be ready to operate the next day if needed. It wasn’t and was later demolished.
