Opened on September 13 1952 with Fred MacMurray in “A Millionaire for Christy” & Rod Cameron in “Cavalry Scout”. On May 9, 1953, Boxoffice reported, “JOHN DAY, ORE. - Bob Keerins has purchased the Blue Mountain Drive-In west of here from Curtis Cheadle of John Day and Edward Patterson of Prairie City. Cheadle and Patterson opened the theatre last September”.
The 1955 Motion Picture Almanac listed the Blue Mountain with a capacity of 340 cars.
The drive-in was still intact in a 1981 aerial photo and outlined in a 1984 topo map, but it had been mostly dismantled by a 1994 photo.

Looks like its now a junkyard, the concession building and screen were actually both still standing in a 2016 aerial photo.
Opened on September 13, 1952 with Fred MacMurray in “Millionaire For Christy” and Rod Cameron in “Cavalry Scout” along with an unnamed cartoon, unnamed short, and a newsreel, featuring RCA equipment installations. Curtis Cheadle of John Day and Edward Patterson of Prairie City were the first owners.
As of August, 2025, the screen is still standing. It is now in a clump of trees, but it is still there.
