Ben Allen built a drive-in between Wendell and Zebulon fusing the city names together and called the Wen-Lon Drive-In. The theatre opened on April 8, 1949 with Walt Disney’s animated feature “Bambi”. Allen also was operating the Car-Ral Drive-In at the time. The Wen-Lon Drive-In was closed by 1951.
By 1952 it had reopened as White’s Drive-In, operated by E.A. White. It was closed in 1981.

The address is 4905 Wendell Boulevard, Wendell, NC. The drive-in was located just to the northeast of the town on the north side of Wendell Blvd near where it connects with Old Zebulon Road.
A 1964 aerial shows the drive-in intact, although it is difficult to tell if it was still in operation.
Today, the area is overgrown with no trace of the drive-in remaining save for the entrance road which has been renamed “Drive In Lane”.

Looks like it closed in 1981.

The White’s Drive-In opened its gates on April 8, 1949 with Walt Disney’s “Bambi” along with an unnamed cartoon and unnamed comedy. Also, is it just me or did I just find a different drive-in at the exact address? Just for the look of 4905 Wendell Boulevard, I think the White’s Drive-In and the Wen-Lon Drive-In are two separate drive-ins. The White’s Drive-In closed on Christmas Day 1981.
E.A. White, its operator of the White’s Drive-In, also operated his own drive-in in nearby Nashville, which opened on June 23, 1949 (it’ll have its own CT page soon).
