Located in Middleton, Lancashire, to the north of Manchester. The 750-seat Palace Cinema was opened on 12th October 1912, operated by Middleton Picturedromes Ltd. In 1929 architect Albert Winstanley added a balcony and and made structural alterations for installation of a Western Electric(WE) sound system. The seating capacity was increased to 966-seats. The proscenium was 30ft wide. It was operated by the independent Middleton Cinemas Ltd. until the late-1950’s when it was taken over by the G.B. Snape Group of Assoc. Cinema Companies chain. They were still the operators in 1980 when it had been converted into a twin screen cinema with seating for 376 & 234. It was still open in 1981. It was last operated as a bingo club and was demolished in 2001.
