United Artists Bassett Cinemas 6 (January 31, 1997) when Star Wars: Special Edition opened

The United Artists Bassett Cinemas 6 opened on December 13, 1985 and was located at the Bassett Place Mall. UA ran the theatre for 14 years until it closed on January 23, 2000. It is unknown the reason for closure, possibly the lease expires, or UA didn’t want to renew the lease or due to lack of business and competing with multiplexes with stadium seating in and around El Paso, like the Century Tinseltown 20 (opened in 1997) or the Carmike 16 (which opened six months before the UA Bassett Cinema 6 closed.

There is now a new Premiere Cinemas Bassett 18 operating since April 2007 in the Bassett Place Mall (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
