LaSalle Drive-In

Originally opened prior to 1954 as the Ivy-Way Drive-In, it was located on Route 6 and had a single screen. Later renamed LaSalle Drive-In, it was operated during its later years by the Kerasotes Theatres chain. After closing, the former drive-in property became the LaSalle Speedway.

It appears that the push pin in the Google Map is a bit off. Move it about a half mile east. If you open Bing Maps, then use the satellite view, pan east until you see a “Y” shaped drive way. It currently is the home of a dirt auto race track, LaSalle Speedway.

While a “Y” shaped drive is not unusual, look towards the south end of the parking lot, directly south of the “Y” drive. THERE IT IS! The screen is still standing, or maybe part of it. Note the shadow cast by the late morning sun.

Update: Use 578 US Highway 6, La Salle, IL to locate it. Switch to BingMaps, Birdseye View. Then rotate so you are looking south, from the north. You can see the screen in it’s full, trapezoidal glory.

The Screen appears to have been torn down. https://goo.gl/maps/R9eE5

Bing Maps' “Bird’s Eye” view uses images that are several years old.

Sadly, the screen and all signs of the old drive-in are gone.

Google Street view is still from 2008 as of now, so the screen is still visible in that.

I Can’t Find The Opening Date To This One, But Found Some News Stories On This Theater.

When The LaSalle Drive-In Was Owned By Alger Theatres In 1954, The Theater However Closed Just In Time For The End Of The 1954 Season. It Not Just Ended The 1954 Season, But A Fire Broke Out Near The Interior Of The Structure. That’s Not The Only Time The LaSalle Drive-In Theater Was Devastated, Because During Its Last Year Of Operation According To The Times Of Streator On October 17th, 1987, Another Fire Broke Out At The Concession Stand. And The Theater Ended Up Closing Its Gates For Good.
