Eugene B. Vasser, Harold S. Gallenkamp and Stanley James Sullins began the Grove-Drive-In as an operation on March 8, 1955. The ozoner was located 1.5 miles northwest of the city. It opened May 5, 1955 with George Montgomery in “Lone Gun". Tuesday-Thursday were bargain nights at just 50 cents per carload.

The pair dissolved the entity on July 21, 1955 in debt. The organization formerly doing business as Grove Drive-In Theatre Co. declared and were granted bankruptcy. The theatre closed on August 25, 1955 with Randolph Scott in “Rage at Dawn”. That appears to be the end of the ozoner and is confirmed by the trade press.

Found It!

The address is 4600 US-59, Grove, OK.

A 1962 aerial shows the remains of the drive in on the south side of the highway. Today, a house sits about where the projection booth/concession stand would’ve been. There is no trace of the drive in remaining.

One more name in Boxoffice, Oct. 1, 1955: “Early in the summer we reported the opening of the Grove, Okla., drive-in. Recently one of the former partners, Stanley James Sullins, filed a bankruptcy petition”

A new Google Street View reveals what may be the foundation of the projection booth/concession stand.

A review of the aerials taken in 1958, 1962, and 1970 when the drive-in had been demolished, but the land itself remained undeveloped shows the foundation of the structure.

A house was built just to the west and the entire grounds appeared to be landscaped which removed all traces of the ramps. But no other structure was built exactly where the projection booth sat.

A May 2024 Google Street View shows a foundation that has the same general shape as the projection booth sitting to the east of the house. It has a temporary shed on part of it.
