Sam Thomas opened the Cozy Theatre on December 27, 1927 in downtown Weleetka likely with Tom Mix in “Tumbling River.”
The Liberty Theatre also opened that year with the established Orpheum Theatre. The local newspaper commented that there would be a movie house for every family if the theatre openings continued.
That growth stopped when Charles Blaine of the Blaine Theatre and Morgan Theatre of Henryetta bought out the Orpheum Theatre and the competing Cozy Theatre. Blaine would launch the New Theatre (later turned Blaine Theatre) on June 22, 1928. Blaine retained the Cozy Theatre just long enough to complete the refresh of the Orpheum Theatre closing it without converting to sound in 1928. The Cozy Theatre was remodeled for a retail venture.
