Located on the corner of Main Street and Seventh Street. According to the Friona Star newspaper, The Friona Theatre was owned and operated by Wesley Hardesty and Boyd Prather. These young men moved from Abernathy to Friona in 1936 to open their new theatre at the north end of the M.A. Crum Building. The first show was on December 11, 1936, with the movie “Love Before Breakfast” starring Carole Lombard. The shows were held on Thursday and Friday nights, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, Sunday afternoon, and Monday night. The Friona Theatre closed its doors for good on January 22, 1937. It reopened in 1938, renamed Regal Theatre.

It was destroyed by a tornado in 1960

A-Ray Landrum reopened the Friona as the Regal Theatre in 1938 according to both the local press and the trade press. The building appears to have been destroyed in a 1960 tornado. Should likely be listed as the Regal Theatre “#1” formerly the Friona… but can certainly stay as the Friona.
