The Monroe Theatre is listed starting in 1926. Although there are no listings in the 1914-15 AMPD, it is believed that this theatre was the same as the old Masonic Opera House, which was located in a two-story brick building constructed sometime between 1900 and 1911.
That building contained an auditorium and stage on the first floor, with the Masonic Lodge upstairs. It is shown on the 1911 map with a capacity of 324.
The Monroe Theatre first appears with a capacity of 300, although by 1945 this had been reduced to 222. By 1951 it had been renamed Strand Theatre, and the capacity slightly increased. It was still listed in 1956, although apparently closed.
The building was demolished long ago, and the location is a parking lot next to the fire station.
