Located in the north City Centre district of Cowcaddens. The site on what was originally named Cowcaddens Street, had originally housed the 2,800-seat Prince of Wales Theatre 1867-1868 when it was destroyed by fire. Rebuilt in 1869 and renovated in 1881, reopening as the 2,030-seat Grand Theatre. It was sold to the Moss Empires theatre chain in 1909 and operated as a cine-variety house from 1915. It was destroyed by fire on 5th September 1918.
The New Grand Picture House was built on the site. It was rebuilt in 1926 when it was given a Jazz-Moderne style makeover and renamed New Grand Theatre. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system around 1929. It was operated as a cinema by the A.B. King circuit and was still operated by them when it closed in 1959.
The building became an extension to the adjacent Dallas Warehouse Department Store and was demolished in the late-1960’s when the area was redeveloped.
