The Southgate Cinema opened its doors as a single-screener on March 23, 1967 with Walt Disney’s “Monkeys Go Home!”. It was unknown if a Disney featurette was added. The Southgate Cinema at the Southgate Shopping Center was also the replacement of the downtown Florida Theatre, which closed 10 days beforehand.
It was twinned in November 1977, and closed by Floyd Theatres on October 3, 1991 with “Terminator 2” in Screen 1 and “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Adventure” in Screen 2.
