Independence Theatre

The Independence Theatre opened April 11, 1925, with vaudeville and the movie “Racing Luck”, starring Monte Banks.

The advertisement in the Oxnard Courier read: “All the children under 12 years are invited to be the guests of A. Martinez, proprietor of the new theatre. Everybody Welcome. Everybody Treated White”.

In September 1929 the theater was condemned because of many building code violations and was ordered closed, which it was in December 1929.

Today’s location would be the vacant lot across from Teatro Boulevard.
