The Mini Cinema 16 opened on December 30, 1970, after the city of Mason City put up a fight to ban it because in was an adult movie theatre. First located at 7 2nd Street SE, in July 1981 it relocated to N. Federal Street. Its final night of performances took place on April 12, 1984, after the owner decided not to renew the lease on the theatre.
