The Washington Theatre operated as early as 1919.

This theater became headlines following an unexpected death. While the theatre was still operational on October 7, 1925, Harley Disher, the son-in-law of D.F. Carter of Brownstown, was in the middle of repairing a leak near the roof made out of gravel and composition paper when his foot slipped on a pebble. He attempted to fall but grabbed the telephone wires to keep his balance before pulling the wires from their fastening on the wall. He regained his balance and then fell to the ground after 2,300 volts shot through him. Employees cut the wires for 10 minutes total, but the man was already dead.

The Washington Theatre was listed as (Closed) in the 1933 edition of Film Daily Yearbook as a silent movie theatre.

It’s most likely that the nearby Indiana’s opening caused the closure of the Washington.
