Jackson Theatre

L.H. Whitaker opened here as the Hippodrome Theatre on April 11, 1911 with several vaudeville acts and some one-reel films between for a dime. New operators J.E. and Lucy Stivers took on the venue as the Hipp Theatre in 1914. Then Ollie N. Pollard took it on late in 1914 changing it to the Lyric Theatre. It moved to new digs on Main Street.

The former theatre housed a billiard hall for period but purportedly returned to cinematic glory as the Hipp Theatre briefly in 1919 under the operation of Tonie Zolliers and Howard Cole of the Jackson Amusement Company. During that planning, the Jackson Theatre returned to operation on July 5, 1919. It suffered a fire in 1920 that appears to have ended the operation as the Pastime Theatre established itself as the major theater in town in the 1920’s.

The building housing the former Hipp and Lyric and Jackson Theatres was still standing in the 2010’s but was removed for a parking lot.
