Ekerö’s Mälaröbion was located at the Erskinestein, a multipurpose assembly hall within the local cultural center and library complex that opened on April 18, 1990, and was designed by the world-famous British-Swedish architect Ralph Erskine, known for his functionalist and humanist designs.

In recent years, Ekerö Municipality has spear-headed major urban planning and extension projects to modernize the town square while preserving its unique architectural heritage. This move also includes the Mälaröbion, which closed for several months in 2026 because of a major modernization project. It was scheduled to reopen on November 8, 2026, bringing back movies and special events.
