Center Theater is an Art Deco style movie house built by the Graphic Theaters Circuit in 1943 to serve the small town of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine and surrounding communities. The theater operated until the mid-1970’s. A non-profit organization, Center Theatre for the Performing Arts, was created in 1998 and began raising funds for the purchase and restoration of the building and raised close to a million dollars. Center Theatre is a community resource, acting as a venue for live stage performances and film.

attended the center theater as a child when, in the 40’s and 50’s, prior to TV, it was my window to the world…last week attended a noel coward review at the old theater…many thanks to those who have restored the “center” to our community

pretty impressive for such a small theatre to be able to offer first run movies. Looks like it’d be a unique theatre to try to go to some time
The Center Theatre opened its doors on June 13, 1940 with a one-day showing of Ray Milland in “The Doctor Takes A Wife” along with a couple of short subjects (including a soundie on Vincent Lopez and his Orchestra), with an original capacity of 600 seats.
