G. David Schine a son of one of the Schine brothers was a major supporter of Sen. Joseph McCarty in the 1950’s. He was featured promently on television during the army-Mccarthy hearings. For our younger readers this was a mojor event in the 1950’s

The Schine brothers appreciated the start they got in Gloversville,NY- and were extremely loyal to the city. They not only lived there, but maintained their headquarters in Gloversville through the mid 1960’s when the chain was forced to dissipate. Many stars used to come and make courtesy appearance at the Schine’s Glove theatre. (See Schine’s Hippodrome theatre and Glove theatre on CINEMA TREASURES.)

I believe the Schine Brothers were originally from Gloversville NY. Interesting to read that this former theatre was originally an opera house. Many small towns had opera houses and so many of them are gone today.

A picture of A.J. Kasson and a couple of pictures of the original auditorium can be seen at The Fulton County Museum located in Gloversville, NY.

The building is next to the Glove theatre.
