The Sands Point Theatre was opened in October 1962. On December 23, 1977 it was renamed Cine East Sands Point, screening Richard Pryor in Which Way is Up?“. Another long gone neighborhood theatre. This one was in Port Washington and closed on September 27, 2010.
It was demolished and the site is now occupied by the Soundview Cinemas (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

where was this located? does the building remain?
Warren is correct. The Clearview Soundview Cinemas is at the location of the former Sands Point Theatre, which was closed for a number years before it was replaced by the current multiplex.
This movie theater is set to close on September 27th 2010. The last movie will be Going the Distance at 7:30 pm on Sunday the 26th.

Hopefully it will be replaced by another chain eventually…………When the economy gets better.
The alternative Main St. theater isn’t that good. It’s a dated complex. The Soundview screens were better in general (in regard to sightlines).
The address is wrong in that it is the one for the now defunct (but maybe reopening) Soundview Cinemas. The old Sands Point occupied pretty much the same site but the Market Place address was not in effect at that time.
NY Daily News listings ended in 1984.
Reopened as Sands Point Cine East on December 23rd, 1977. Grand opening ad posted
The theater closed in 1984. I know, because I lived just three blocks away and saw SCARFACE there earlier that year. Cineplex Odeon reactivated the site in 1990, followed by Clearview later on. No theater exists there now.
@rivest266…I don’t recall it ever being called the “Sand Point Cine East”, and I lived in the vicinity from 1977-86.
