    This Saturday, March 5, the Bonnie Delight Revue is staging an old-fashioned variety show with a modern day twist! Proceeds from this show go to help save Pasadena’s historic Raymond Theatre! The show is being held at the California Institute of Abnormal Arts

    Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15 at the door.

    Celebration At Academy Theater/Cathedral

    INGLEWOOD, CA — Local Pastor, Rev. Doyle Hart will celebrate his 83rd birthday and 40 years of ministry in the Los Angeles area. Gospel Recording Artist Dorinda Clark-Cole will kick off a day-long celebration recognizing several milestones at Academy Cathedral.

    Forty years ago, in 1965, Rev. Doyle Hart moved into a small church in the heart of south Los Angeles with a mission to preach the gospel. Because of his inspiring messages of faith and deliverance, Rev. Hart quickly had a growing congregation to preach to. His heartfelt desire to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to equip people in the community with the necessary tools to live fulfilling lives was immediately felt by anyone attending services in the church then known as Calvary Temple.

    Mary Martin Gallery Presents “The Theater Project”

    On September 28, 1929, the landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre opened its doors for the first time. Four and a half months before, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences awarded its first Oscar. Over the decades, some of the movies honored as “Best Picture” have lost some of their popularity and now seem oddly dated.

    But others have claimed a permanent place in the public’s imagination and in the history of cinema. Now, to celebrate the Loew’s Jersey’s 75th Anniversary, we proudly present four of Oscar’s Most Enduring Best Pictures:

    Old Movie Houses Exhibition in Lansdale, PA

    LANSDALE, PA — A flim & photo exhibition of Lansdale’s Old Movie Houses (including the Lansdale Theater will be featured at the Lansdale Historical Society’s next meeting to be held on March 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lansdale Parks and Recreation Building.

    Rare Opportunity to Visit LA’s Tower Theatre

    LOS ANGELES, CA — The Tower Theatre on Broadway, which has been closed since 1988, will host a free lecture by Hollywood film historian Marc Wanamaker called “How West Coast Movie Production Began Downtown” on February 26th.

    The S. Charles Lee-designed Tower is not included on the Los Angeles Conservancy’s theater district tour and is rarely open to the public.

    It is mainly used for film shoots, according to Jon Olivan, the theater’s manager, who is currently trying to gain public attention of the Tower to convert it into a multi-purpose entertainment venue, like the Orpheum.

    Monthly Uptown Socials Begin On March 7

    CHICAGO, IL — Friends of the Uptown volunteers will host brief, monthly socials to talk casually about the history of the Uptown Theatre and other historic venues. The socials are no-frills get-togethers where the dress is casual and the talk is informal.

    Come as you are at 6:30 p.m. promptly on the first Monday of each month to the first floor conference room of the Bridgeview Bank building, 4753 N. Broadway, in Uptown. Seating is limited and available only on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    Snacks and drinks to share with friends would be appreciated (go ahead and bring them!). We will also pitch in to help share the cost of the room rental.

    Friends have scheduled March 7, April 4, and May 2 talks. Future dates may be planned contingent on time, interest and inclination. Any change to the first Monday schedule will be announced only via Uptown Adviser, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uptownadviser/

    Free Tours of the Atlanta Fox Theatre

    ATLANTA, GA — The Atlanta Preservation Center is having its 3rd annual Phoenix Flies celebration from March 5th to March 15th. There will be many free activities going on around the city. As part of that, they have a weeklong period in which they will be giving free tours of the Legendary Atlanta Fox Theatre. The dates for the free tours are:

    “Sweetheart Tour” of Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre

    HOLLYWOOD, CA — On February 12 & 13 (10:30 AM), the American Cinematique at the Egyptian Theatre hosts a special “Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Tour.”

    Featuring “tidbits from the life of America’s original Sweetheart, Mary Pickford and her husband Douglas Fairbanks (who were frequent visitors to Grauman’s Hollywood Egyptian Theatre in the 1920s) and some tasty sweets,” the special event offers two tickets for the price of one.

    “Highlights of our regular historic tours are included,” the press office assures. “See what it would have been like to be in a Grauman stage show with a visit to the dressing rooms and singers' boxes.
